Getting Excited for Family Weekend in Washington

Emily Hecht-McGowan, our Director of Public Policy, was in Annapolis last night for the Senate vote on marriage equality.  After the vote, she sent us pictures of her and her wife with their Maryland State Senator Jamie Raskin, grinning ear-to-ear.

As one more state votes in favor of our families, instead of against our families, we are preparing to bring Family Equality Council to the biggest political stage in the country: the U.S. Congress.  On Thursday, May 17th, our families will be flooding the Capitol, telling our stories and asking our legislators to stand up for all families, including those headed by LGBT parents.

We hope that you will be able to join us in May for a day of lobbying and a weekend of fun and community.  On Thursday, we’ll be meeting with lawmakers to talk about adoption and foster care, the repeal of the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act,” and creating safer schools for our children.

On Friday and Saturday, we’ll be celebrating by visiting Washington’s cultural and historic landmarks.  See the pandas at the National Zoo! Visit the breathtaking Air and Space Museum.  Take in a free family concert at the famous Kennedy Center.

So join us May 17th to 19th in Washington, DC for the first ever Family Weekend in Washington and show our nation’s capital that all families matter, especially ours!
