Urgent Legislation Alert for New York State Residents

Posted by on with 0 Comments

a custody gavelAll children deserve to be born with secure parentage, but in New York State, that is not always the case.  Despite the best intentions of their parents, many children conceived with the help of assisted
reproductive technologies such as the use of donor eggs, sperm or with the help of a surrogate, find their custody and safety in jeopardy. Newly proposed legislation up for debate in both the Assembly and Senate this week could change that. We are writing to you today to ask for your support to make sure this legislation, The Child-Parent Security Act, gets passed.

New York State currently has some of the toughest anti-surrogacy laws in the country. The Child-Parent Security Act (A06701 and S04617) would alter public policy to ensure that intended parents and their children have the same rights as all other parents and children. The Assembly justification written in support of the Act says it best: "New York law has failed to keep pace with medical advances in the treatment of infertility, causing uncertainty about who the legal parents of a child are upon birth."

If children and their security is important to you, write to your Senators and Assembly Memberstoday in support of The Child-Parent Security Act. The Act is up for debate this week so don't wait to make your voice be heard. We're all in this together, so please don't delay. Act now for the safety of all children born through assisted reproductive technology in New York State.
