Biography

Dr. Lake received her Bachelor’s Degree in Italian Literature from Bryn Mawr College in 1992. She was graduated from Tulane School of Medicine in 1997. She completed her residency in General Adult Psychiatry at the McGraw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago in 2001 and served as Co-chief Resident during her fourth year of training.

She became a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2002. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, and the Mental Health Professional Group of ASRM. Dr. Lake has been in private practice as a general adult psychiatrist in Charleston, SC since 2002. She works individually with adults18 years to geriatric ages. She utilizes psychopharmacology and psychotherapy to treat a variety of problems, most commonly depression and anxiety. She has a special interest in treating those with infertility issues, women with perinatal and postpartum mood problems, and mood problems related to hormones. She also performs 3rd party evaluations, screenings and psychoeducational meetings for gamete donors, gestational carriers, and donor gamete recipients/intended parents. Rachel began her career as an architect and businesswoman. She was also one of thousands of infertility sufferers riding the roller coaster of hope and disappointment. After giving birth to her own “miracle baby” through IVF, she turned to writing, focusing on the experiences of alternative families. Many described feeling overwhelmed and isolated as they faced the emotional, physical, financial and legal challenges of achieving parenthood.

Rachel’s research included interviews with dozens of fertility doctors, oncologists, urologists, adoption professionals, attorneys, surrogacy and donation agencies, psychotherapists and holistic practitioners. This knowledge was quickly put to use, as friends and relatives of the families she had profiled for The Lucky Ones began seeking her advice about forming their own families.

Rachel’s company, KinFormation Families, was created to provide prospective parents with knowledge, assurance and concrete solutions. First, Rachel takes time to get to know each client, exploring their goals and dreams, their priorities, boundaries and budget. Biography

Dr. Rashmi Kudesia is a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist who leads RMA of New York’s Brooklyn office. Dr. Kudesia specializes in treating couples who are trying to build their families.  She is patient and knowledgeable in many aspects of reproductive medicine.  She evaluates and manages couples with ovulatory issues and male factor, and is comfortable with both basic and advanced technologies. Dr. Kudesia earned her medical degree from Duke University. While at Duke, she earned the Ernestine Friedl Award for her research relating to creation and disposition of cryopreserved embryos, and was awarded the Gibbons Award from the American Congress of Obstetricians & Gynecologists in 2007.  She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College, where she received the Special Resident in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Award in 2012 from the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.  She completed her fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as well as a Masters of Science in Clinical Research Methods at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Kudesia has received numerous grants and awards for her academic accomplishments and medical research. She was awarded a Global Women’s Health certificate by Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2011, and was nominated into the Duke Engel Society, which recognizes intellectual development, service and clinical excellence. Dr. Kudesia is the recipient of the Joan F. Giambalvo Scholarship Research Grant from the AMA Foundation in 2013, as well as multiple in-training research grants.  Dr. Kudesia served as a Theme Issue Editor for the American Medical Association’s Journal of Ethics’ issue on Innovation in Reproductive Care, and has held multiple regional and national leadership positions within organized medicine.

Dr. Kudesia is an accomplished lecturer and author and has written numerous scientific research articles and manuscripts in leading medical journals. She has presented many of her research findings at national meetings, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
