Dawn Smith-Pliner is the founding director of Friends in Adoption (FIA), a not-for-profit child placement agency licensed in New York, Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Dawn is an adoptive mother who has been working in the field of compassionate adoption since 1982. She coordinates all of FIA’s post adoption services while living the life of post adoption both personally through her connections to her children and their families and professionally through her ever growing FIA family. Dawn has served on the Advisory Panel of AFA since 2007 and is a frequent speaker at conferences.

Friends in Adoption focuses on helping people make informed decisions concerning adoption. FIA promotes open adoption and inclusiveness, and provides lifelong support to all members of the adoption circle. FIA employs a network of dedicated, experienced and caring adoption professionals. Although its administrative offices are located in Vermont and New York, FIA provides free and confidential adoption services for pregnant women/expectant couples anywhere in the United States.   

FIA’s mission is to keep the central focus on the needs of each child and to provide compassionate adoption services for the unique individuals involved in the adoption process.
