Biography

I am Poonam Sharma, a licensed psychologist in private practice in San Antonio, Texas. I earned my Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The University of Texas at Austin in 1994.  In my clinical practice, I provide psychotherapy for adults and specialize in working with people dealing with health issues, such as infertility, traumatic injury, and stress.  My coaching work focuses on helping people increase their fitness levels, find balance in their lives, and achieve their most important personal and professional goals.

I have served on the faculty of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for several years in the Departments of Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry, and Community Dentistry.  I was President of the Bexar County Psychological Association in 2000-2001.  I am currently a professional member of the American Psychological Association, Texas Psychological Association, Bexar County Psychological Association, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, Path2Parenthood and Resolve: The National Infertility Association.  I am credentialed as a Health Service Provider in Psychology through the National Register.  I am certified to offer the mind/body program for infertility created by Dr. Alice Domar, a leading researcher in the area of stress and infertility.

I believe that it takes a true partnership to bring about change in a person's life.  My job is to bring you the professional expertise that I have developed through many years of education and training.  Your job is to tell the truth, take risks to be open, and make an honest effort to follow through with what we discuss.  I will work very hard to make it comfortable for you to be yourself so that you can take the emotional risks that are necessary for growth.  I will believe in you every step of the way.  As someone who has dealt with health challenges personally, I believe I have a unique perspective on living life fully, no matter what your personal limitations.  My style is to listen compassionately to understand your situation clearly, help you set realistic goals, and then support you as you take steps that will move you toward the results you desire.

Sara Barris is a clinical psychologist. Since 1988 she has been highly active in the field of reproductive health issues with an expertise in infertility and adoption   Dr. Barris has written and lectured extensively around the psychological and emotional variables surrounding these issues.

She has conducted many workshops in these areas as well. Dr. Barris serves as the co - director of Support Services for Path2Parenthood. In that capacity she has created and co-developed their national telephone coaching support groups. This involves leading groups, training and supervising mental health professionals.  Dr. Barris is a part of Dr. Martin Seligman’s team at the University of Pennsylvania helping to facilitate the Penn Resilience Prevention Program for children and adolescents. Sara Barris has a full time private practice in Forest Hills, New York .  She is a mother through birth and adoption.

Dr. Silvia Schneider Fox is a Chicago clinical psychologist, specializing in reproductive health since 1992. Her clinical practice is devoted to counseling  and supporting individuals and couples during all stages of family-building, including third-party reproduction, pregnancy loss, and parenting after infertility. Dr. Fox facilitates Mind/Body For Fertility programs which help women manage stress while increasing their treatment success. She screens ovum donors and gestational carriers, consults with recipient couples and reports to medical professionals and independent agencies.

Dr. Fox has widely researched, written and presented on topics related to family-building. A professional member of RESOLVE since 1995, she served as its Illinois Director of Support Services, authored a regular "Ask the Expert" column and was a keynote speaker at its symposia and programs. Since 2010, Dr. Fox has been traveling the country, educating dozens of Reproductive Endocrinology practices on the emotional aspects of infertility.

Finally, Dr. Fox has her own experience with infertility. Her long journey to parenthood has deepened her understanding of the challenges others face in the process of building their own families.
