Lisa Schuman, LCSW is a psychotherapist who has been counseling individuals, couples and groups on a variety of issues and has specialized in reproductive medicine for over a decade. Ms. Schuman helps individuals through family building processes such as IUI and IVF, ovum and sperm donation, perinatal loss, single parent issues, gay and lesbian issues, oocyte cryopreservation, surrogacy and adoption.
She leads two Drop-In Support Groups, one focused on infertility treatment concerns and the other focused on third party reproduction, for both ovum donation and sperm donation recipients. She is also founding director of Adoption Cooperative Consultants, an adoption consulting group. Ms. Schuman is a frequent speaker and consultant for seminars, symposiums and television programs.
Ms. Schuman earned her graduate degree at Yeshiva University and studied psychoanalysis at the Greenwich Institute in Manhattan. She is also a supervisor and on faculty at the Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. She is a former board member and support group leader for the American Fertility Association and has been actively involved with many other infertility and adoption organizations. In addition, she is an active member of the Mental Health Professional Group for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and is Chair of the Oocyte Cryopreservation Task Force.

Lois Nachamie, MFA, LCSW, is a board-certified psychotherapist, couples counselor, and group leader in private practice in New York City, specializing in family and parenting issues. Madeline Licker Feingold, Ph.D., Director of Psychological Services is a clinical psychologist with offices in Berkeley and Walnut Creek. She has over 25 years of experience treating adults, couples, and families and specializes in the psychological aspects of reproductive medicine, treatment of infertile couples, and alternative family building. She has been affiliated with the Alta Bates In Vitro Fertilization Program since 1992.
Dr. Feingold provides infertility counseling to help our patients cope with the emotional strain of infertility and works collaboratively with our medical team to insure an integrated treatment approach. She incorporates principles of mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and lifestyle interventions to assist individuals and couples reduce stress and depression and enhance the quality of their lives. Dr. Feingold has completed the Mind/Body Infertility Professional Training Program with Alice Domar, Ph.D.
Dr. Feingold has expertise in the psychological and ethical issues associated with third party reproduction. She provides the required psychological screening of our egg donors and surrogates and meets with intended parents who are considering building a family with the assistance of donor egg, donor sperm, donor embryo, or surrogacy. Dr. Feingold helps people develop an individualized family building plan which focuses on healthy child and family development.
